Discussion around Genetic Experiment on Human Embryos with Dana Carroll
Professor Carroll was at the Summit Conference in Hong Kong when Dr. He presented his description of the experiments performed and agreed to meet with the Postdoc community to discuss about what happened, the future of CRISPR and the ethical consequences.
Professor Carrol, Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry, works with powerful, exciting and relatively new tools of precise genome engineering, using the ZFN, TALEN and CRISPR-Cas9 platforms. He is also personally interested in the broader uses of genome editing and the societal implications of such uses. Medical applications of genome editing are in their infancy, but also have great promise. He wants to ensure that such uses are developed safely, and their benefits are distributed appropriately. Complex ethical and societal issues are raised by these prospects, particularly when modifications to the human germline are considered. He agreed to participate in a discussion with postdocs about societal issues around genome editing.
Coffee and bagels will be served.
RSVP by December 12th.
